BIOGRAPHY OF ROBERT MacKAY

Dr. Robert Mackay began his career in the metal casting industry 10 years ago at Oberdorfer Industries Limited, Syracuse New York, in product engineering of cast aluminum components. Following that he moved to Haley Industries Limited, Haley Ontario, as a process engineer with a focus on aerospace magnesium and aluminum castings. After that Robert began an Internship with the Casting Process Development Centre (CPDC) in 1999 while working on a Doctorate at the University of Windsor. In 2003 Robert joined Nemak Engineering Center (NEC) and his current title is Metallurgical & Heat Treatment Specialist for Nemak of Canada Corporation.

Robert obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics (92) from the University of Prince Edward Island, a Master of Science degree in Geophysics (94) from Memorial University of Newfoundland, then a Master of Engineering degree in Metallurgical Engineering (97) from McGill University, and then finally a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Materials Engineering (03) from the University of Windsor. Academic training in metallurgical engineering focused in aluminum sand casting process & development. From both academic and work tenures Robert currently has generated 17 publications in peer reviewed conferences and journals.

During his metallurgical engineering training Robert became an FEF scholar. He received four FEF scholarships between 2000 and 2002, including Foseco's sponsored Ronald W. Ruddle Memorial scholarship and the North American Die Casting Association's sponsored David Laine scholarship.

Since 2003 Robert has been a member of the AFS-DW Education Committee and has participated in high school visits and career days in both Metropolitan Detroit and Windsor.
