BIOGRAPHY OF KATHY HAYRYNEN
2009-2012 Director
Kathy Hayrynen has a BS, MS and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Since 1995, she has served as the Technical Director of the Applied Process Companies headquartered in Livonia where she is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of corporate Research and Development.
Kathy has been an active member of the American Foundry Society for a number of years. She is a past Chair of the 5I – Ductile Iron Research Committee and currently serves as the Chair of the 5B – Cast Iron Programming Committee and Vice Chair of the Cast Iron Executive Committee. In addition, she is a past recipient of the Ray Witt Management Award (2003), the Outstanding Individual Service Citation for the Cast Iron Division (2003), an AFS Award of Scientific Merit (2004) as well as a 4-time recipient of the Best Paper Award for the Cast Iron Division.
Kathy serves on External Advisory Boards for the Dept of Metallurgical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology as well as for the Dept of Materials Science & Engineering at Michigan Tech. In 2006, MTU inducted her into their Materials Science and Engineering Academy which recognizes alumni for significant contributions to the MSE program at Michigan Tech.
Kathy recently began a 3-year term on the Board of Directors of the Detroit-Windsor AFS Chapter. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundry Educational Foundation, a past Chair of the Detroit Chapter of ASM and a Fellow of ASM International.
