BIOGRAPHY OF FRED DUERK

Fred Duerk began his career in metal casting in 1969 as a GMI Co-op student (BSIE ’74) at the Central Foundry – Defiance, Ohio Plant.

After graduation, he began his career at General Motors as an Industrial Engineer in the Defiance Nodular Iron plant.   He was assigned as a Quality Engineer in 1977 and in 1978 transferred to the Central Foundry Divisional Sales Dept.  In 1980, he was promoted to Superintendent of Quality at the Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant and also served as Superintendent of Production Engineering and Core Room Superintendent.  In 1986, he was assigned as Reliability Engineering Manager for Central Foundry Division of GM, at which time he received ASQ Quality Engineer certification.  In 1991 he was assigned as a Staff Engineer for the Transmission Sector of Central Foundry.

While continuing his career working for GM, Fred received an MBA in 1991 from the University of Michigan – Flint.  In 1995, after Central Foundry was consolidated into GM Powertrain, he was transferred to its Pontiac Headquarters where he is Manager - Manufacturing Engineering Support & Industrial Engineering for the Casting Sector.   His current responsibilities include long range strategic planning and business case development and analysis for GM Casting Operations.

Fred is a resident of Rochester Hills, MI.  He and his wife Lois enjoy spending time with family, travel, biking, cross-country skiing and golf.  He is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester, MI.
